Start again...
Things are getting interesting: finishing up a contract tomorrow. Possibly renewing with the folks that I am working with now, or taking a little stint in Hong Kong. Looking forward to some change.
My buddy Teong has joined Juniper, to look after the SDX product suite. I am really psyched about him joining up, because he rocks at this stuff.
Lately I have been working with iPlanet as a directory server, and it works very well. I am interested in working with Novell's eDirectory and seeing if there are any performance improvements. This would be important if a service provider is scaling up to large scale SDX deployments with hundreds of thousands of users.
Chris, Dylan, and myself had a conference call today on the progress of the BRAS book. Inspite of all the energies I have been exhausting at work, I think we are still doing pretty good with our timeframe. This weekend I will have to bang out quite a bit of the protocols section.
I plan to cover protocols like OSPF / BGP / ISIS / MPLS with all the resiliency features. A good deal will focus on graceful restart, strapping BFD to these protocols for faster convergence, and high availability support on these protocols.
MPLS Protection (ie. fast re-route ) and the ability to switch next-hops on the ERX (JUNOSe) is very quick. I recently setup two LSPs with the same egress PE, setup absolute metrics between these LSPs, and tied each LSP to a specific physical interface with explicit routing objects. When failing a single local interface that is transiting MPLS traffic, the period of lost packets was ~64ms. That is awesome.
I have been looking at some new mobile phones on the market. There are so many these days with so many features. I currently carry a GSM Blackberry 72XX, and a CDMA clamshell. Will have to check out the latest gizmos ....
