wtc memorial thoughts

The work to build the memorial pools on the voids of the two towers is to start soon. I like the idea of water in the design. I looked through some of the designs that were submitted the the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, and although some were rather disturbing, I think most of them attempted to capture similar fundamentals.
Water can mean a lot, and it has a profound impact on people. Think of the reflecting pool between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Something so simple in design, but yet so beautiful.
Michael Arad and Peter Walker proposed the design which has been chosen. I believe the title of the design is "Reflecting Absense".
Having been in NYC during Sept 11, I understand first hand the feelings of loss that were experienced by all New Yorkers. At that time, I was working in Midtown and around noon that day I walked across Central Park where people were deep in thought and grasping for meaning. An exhibit that allows reflection and still promotes growth and bonding, in the sense of a park, I believe is perfect for NYC.
